I work with teens, adults, and professional helpers such as: nurses, teachers, social workers, front-line workers, etc. I help people build inner strength, confidence, and hope for those who are feeling weighed down by stress, anxiety, and depression. My clients feel stuck due to life struggles such as: work, school, relationships, and life stressors. Some clients also struggle within themselves to find confidence, peace, and joy. In our sessions, we will work together to help you gain a better understanding of yourself and the struggles you face. With curiosity, we will explore what you hope for yourself. I will help you learn how to use self-compassion to be the best version of yourself, so that you can face the ups and downs of life with confidence, courage, and calmness. I have a keen interest in evidence-based practices such as: Internal Family Systems therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Cognitive-Based therapies, Narrative therapy, Eco-Wellness, and psycho-spiritually-based therapies.

Do you remember when you were learning how to ride a bike? Undoubtedly, the process of learning was through trial, error, and perhaps guidance from a caregiver. It’s a common conception that a therapist’s role is to give advice. That is not the case. My role in our therapeutic relationship is to guide you through the process – just like learning to ride a bike for the first time. It takes effort, time, and perhaps some discomfort…But the “aha” moment of finding balance brings a sense of freedom and independence.

As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional – Level 2 (CCTP-II), I strive to create a safe environment where you can explore your experiences and be your authentic self. Through curiosity and compassion, we can explore how you can find and maintain balance and understand how the pedals work.

I have experience with PTSD, attachment issues, depression/anxiety, spirituality, issues with self-worth/self-esteem, shame, neurodivergence, and I am passionate about diversity and integrating a cultural perspective for marginalized groups/bicultural individuals.

I would be honoured to be a part of your journey of finding self-understanding and acceptance.

I have been practicing as a Clinical Social Worker for over 8 years. Throughout my years of practice, I have worked in residential addiction treatment, inpatient mental health with a focus on treating eating disorders, and in community practice serving veterans and Canadian Armed Forces service members.

I utilize a person-centred approach and work with you to tailor a treatment plan to your unique needs.

My training is in cognitive therapies (e.g., Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy). I am currently registered to become certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and will be able to begin applying this in February 2025.

In addition to treating clients with a wide array of presenting issues, I am also a Clinical Supervisor, providing oversight to Masters of Counselling Psychology practicum students from Yorkville University.

When I am not wearing my Clinical Social Worker/Clinical Supervisor hat, I’m a full-time mom to two young children. This is my most prized role! I also enjoy reading, being in nature, baking, and being a pet parent.

From a young age I had an unquenchable desire to make sense of the human experience. This curiosity was paired with a natural ability to be present to others despite the intensity of their experience. Over the years, life has shaped, prepared, and equipped me to take on this humbling role. This has meant having practical experience as well as further education. I have a Bachelor of Arts with Honours from the University of New Brunswick with additional psychology courses from St-Thomas University. I am a student member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). I am currently in the process on completing a Masters in Counselling Psychology and look forward to supporting you in your wellness journey. I take a trauma-informed, person-centered approach to therapy and have a particular interest in embodied awareness. Together we will decide on the best course of therapy for your needs as you teach me more about yourself. I can utilize tools from CBT, SFT, Psychodynamic, Narrative Therapy, Experiential modalities, and somatic therapies to name a few. I’m also a fellow human who enjoys spending time with family, gardening, flowers, strength training, biking, the great outdoors, travelling, reading, writing, cooking, and so much more. Je suis aussi francophone et ça me fera un plaisir de travailler avec vous dans la langue de votre choix.

It goes without saying that I love being a Mental Health Nurse in Counselling Therapy. My compassion for being a professional helper is reflected in my Nursing and Education undergraduate degrees. As I worked with people, my interest in wanting deeper connections with others grew and I became increasingly curious about how a person’s life experiences impacted their health and well-being. I wanted to learn more about how I could help people in this way, so I went on to obtain my Masters in Education in Counselling. I now have more than 7 years of formal training, and 12 years of experience as a professional helper.

No two clients are the same, so in order to create a safe and trusting healing space for you I will use a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models such as: Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, and Cognitive Therapies (CTs), to name a few. My approach is non-judgmental, because I use compassion and curiosity to get to know you and I’m genuinely interested in learning how you experience life. Although, most of my experience is in stress-related injuries (e.g. PTSD, Compassion Fatigue, Complex Trauma, Vicarious Trauma, etc.), I also help people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-confidence, relationship issues, chronic pain, grief, and loss. Basically, I am open to working with people from all walks of life. We will work together to help you gain more clarity of your emotional pain or struggle by getting to know the different parts of who you are. My counselling style aligns well with IFS, because it is nonpathological in nature. Meaning, I don’t see you as broken or weak, but rather I see you as a person who is struggling or perhaps as someone who has lost their way. My therapeutic approach will not only help you manage stress and increase your capacity to cope, but I will also help you heal from your emotional pain and suffering. It may not always be easy to do this, but you don’t have to do it alone. I can help. It is a privilege to hold compassionate and non-judgmental healing space for others. It’s an honor to help people gain a deeper understanding of their inner self, so that they can heal, find balance, and inner peace. It is a gift that this is my work, because it is my way of being and this is what I do for others – I help them heal and grow.

I’m a Registered Nurse licensed with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick and a Licensed Counselling Therapist with the College of Licensed Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick and received my education at the University of New Brunswick. I have training and experience in education, trauma-related injuries, suicide intervention and prevention, anxiety, depression, grief, population health, chronic and acute illness, positive psychology, and holistic health approaches to wellness. I have a keen interest in evidence-based practices such as: Internal Family Systems therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Cognitive-Based therapies, Narrative therapy, Eco-Wellness, and psycho-spiritually-based therapies. If you were to ask someone who knows me to describe me using one word, they would most likely say “Earthy”, hence the name of my practice Marcescence Counselling.
