I work with teens, adults, and professional helpers such as: nurses, teachers, social workers, front-line workers, etc. I help people build inner strength, confidence, and hope for those who are feeling weighed down by stress, anxiety, and depression. My clients feel stuck due to life struggles such as: work, school, relationships, and life stressors. Some clients also struggle within themselves to find confidence, peace, and joy. In our sessions, we will work together to help you gain a better understanding of yourself and the struggles you face. With curiosity, we will explore what you hope for yourself. I will help you learn how to use self-compassion to be the best version of yourself, so that you can face the ups and downs of life with confidence, courage, and calmness. I have a keen interest in evidence-based practices such as: Internal Family Systems therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Cognitive-Based therapies, Narrative therapy, Eco-Wellness, and psycho-spiritually-based therapies.

Child/Youth and Family Practitioner

Child/Youth and Family Practitioner

From a young age, I gravitated towards the role of being the confidant and listener. My journey to finding my way to this career path was gradual and almost natural – I have always had a longing to help others. Beginning the healing process can be challenging but I would be honoured to be a part of the process. I strive to create a warm and safe environment through empathy, respect, and compassion.

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Mount Allison University and am currently in the process of completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (MACP) at Yorkville University. I am from a Filipino background and moved to Canada at the age of 9. I am passionate about diversity and decreasing the barriers of accessing mental healthcare for marginalized groups. My background includes long-term experience in childcare, academic support, and hospitality.

I use an integrative approach with my clients – person-centered, cognitive-behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness. Collaboratively, we can develop a therapeutic plan that best suits your needs. My areas of interest include family systems, depression, anxiety, stress management, spirituality, trauma, and issues with self-worth/criticism.

I invite you to take the reins and begin your journey to healing…

I am a Registered Psychotherapist (RP) with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology as well as a Masters degree in Counselling. I currently reside in Ontario and offer telehealth services. I am trained in trauma-informed care with experience serving veterans, active military members, as well as civilians, presenting with a wide range of concerns. The psychotherapeutic issues I am most familiar with are PTSD, depression, anxiety, grief, relational issues, moral injuries and obsessive compulsive disorder. I provide individual therapy services tailored to your individual needs using the following modalities: mindfulness, internal family systems (IFS), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). My practice is informed by the polyvagal theory and the importance of calming and regulating the nervous system prior to engaging in more cognitive types of therapy where processing and having access to higher functioning areas of the brain are needed.

It goes without saying that I love being a Mental Health Nurse in Counselling Therapy. My compassion for being a professional helper is reflected in my Nursing and Education undergraduate degrees. As I worked with people, my interest in wanting deeper connections with others grew and I became increasingly curious about how a person’s life experiences impacted their health and well-being. I wanted to learn more about how I could help people in this way, so I went on to obtain my Masters in Education in Counselling. I now have more than 7 years of formal training, and 12 years of experience as a professional helper.

No two clients are the same, so in order to create a safe and trusting healing space for you I will use a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models such as: Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, and Cognitive Therapies (CTs), to name a few. My approach is non-judgmental, because I use compassion and curiosity to get to know you and I’m genuinely interested in learning how you experience life. Although, most of my experience is in stress-related injuries (e.g. PTSD, Compassion Fatigue, Complex Trauma, Vicarious Trauma, etc.), I also help people who are struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-confidence, relationship issues, chronic pain, grief, and loss. Basically, I am open to working with people from all walks of life. We will work together to help you gain more clarity of your emotional pain or struggle by getting to know the different parts of who you are. My counselling style aligns well with IFS, because it is nonpathological in nature. Meaning, I don’t see you as broken or weak, but rather I see you as a person who is struggling or perhaps as someone who has lost their way. My therapeutic approach will not only help you manage stress and increase your capacity to cope, but I will also help you heal from your emotional pain and suffering. It may not always be easy to do this, but you don’t have to do it alone. I can help. It is a privilege to hold compassionate and non-judgmental healing space for others. It’s an honor to help people gain a deeper understanding of their inner self, so that they can heal, find balance, and inner peace. It is a gift that this is my work, because it is my way of being and this is what I do for others – I help them heal and grow.

I’m a Registered Nurse licensed with the Nurses Association of New Brunswick and a Licensed Counselling Therapist with the College of Licensed Counselling Therapists of New Brunswick and received my education at the University of New Brunswick. I have training and experience in education, trauma-related injuries, suicide intervention and prevention, anxiety, depression, grief, population health, chronic and acute illness, positive psychology, and holistic health approaches to wellness. I have a keen interest in evidence-based practices such as: Internal Family Systems therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, Cognitive-Based therapies, Narrative therapy, Eco-Wellness, and psycho-spiritually-based therapies. If you were to ask someone who knows me to describe me using one word, they would most likely say “Earthy”, hence the name of my practice Marcescence Counselling.
